Every Delco knock sensor I've seen has used the same design, so I believe you're out of luck for a 90 degree connector. As far as positioning it elsewhere, again that's probably not going to easily cure things. IIRC, all of the "off the shelf" ESC calibrations for first gen sbc's are tuned for the noise signature at the drain plug. Unless there's something incredibly horsepower-creating about those headers, I'd consider modifying them a touch to give a little clearance for the sensor wiring.

You are correct. Unfortunately the 4.3 is famous for lousy ESC calibrations due to nasty noise signatures (trust me on this one). Chevy always went back to the drain hole location for the eight cylinder engines.
