Looking for Tips on Greasing
Prepping to reassemble my front suspension, including many new parts. The tie rod ends and balljoints are all brand new and seem to have been pre-greased. Is it best to add more grease so it comes out of the "cracks" and into the boot/dust shield, or is this a case of less being better than more because you could create some type of hydraulic lock and limit the motion of the part? Also, I'm using synthetic hi-temp grease for the rotor/hub...if the grease in the balljoints is not hi-temp is there any problem with compatability with non-synth low-temp? I'm guessing it's not a prob.
Same subject, different spot...when adding grease to the hub/rotor/spindle, what's the ideal amount and best way to apply it? I installed new inner races and bearings (greased with that awesome bearing greasing tool). I piled in some grease on the back side of the inner bearing then cleaned up the sealing area and added the seal. When replacing the hub should I just slather a whole bunch of grease on the inner surface of the hub before placing it on the spindle, or is it better to glob it on the spindle then insert with a slow rotation to spread it all out?
Any advice appreciated,
thanks, Steve
I always wondered about adding a little extra grease after properly packing the bearings. I doubt that it does any harm as long as you don't go crazy. Not sure if it does any good though.
