Anyone using an adjustable throttle cable? I have too much "slack" in my cable and I cant adjust it any farther. The cable isn't stretched. The problem seems to be due to having a non-original carb on the car. I looked at some adjustable cable supports but they accepted a different stye throttle cable. My GM cable is secured at the carb using a metal sleeve. Anyone else have this problem?

Re: Adjustable Throttle Cable (RatMat)
What carb are you using? A Holley? If so you need the Holley throttle cable bracket. This puts the little vise part of the bracket in the correct spot in relation to the carb.
Dr. Rebuild still lists the part. Last I heard though was that they're discontinued.
My car has a Quadrajet. The GM throttle cable has some extra length so I have a lot of throttle movement without opening the throttle plate. When I put the pedal to the "fiberglass" my throttle plate doesn't open all the way. I am looking for a way to eliminate the extra length. Maybe I dont have the correct throttle cable but I ordered the one for a 68 427 so I think it is correct.
You can use one of those fishing weights that clamp on to the cable. Go down to where the cable attaches to the pedal, cut off the old end, pull the cable tight and clamp it on.
I've got the same problem and was going to look around today to see what I could find to fix this. Somebody here has to have a good fix for this!?!?! Does that little "stop" at the end of the cable move in any way????
I dont want to become a card carrying "Bubba" but I did put a few slip-shot fishing sinkers on my throttle cable a few months ago. Over time they have fallen off. Maybe I am not qualified for these "Bubba" fixes. I want to do things right now so I dont get a bad reputation.
O.K. here is what the problem could be.... It is common for the gas pedal bracket UNDER the dash to bend over the years. When this happens and you "fix" it at the carburetor, you cannot get full throttle. This will make your car a real DOG. The early C-3's have this happen a lot and the owner never realize's it.
Ok...I cut my cable yesterday and tried to put on one of those "cable stops" that you push the cable through and then tighten a screw. Don't do it!!!! It was a mistake! Trying to put the cable through there with the little wires from the cable going every which way was a pain!!!!! I'm going to get a new cable today and then go bend the top of the accelerator pedal like I should have at first. Oh well....live and learn!!!!!
I ended up buying a Lokar adjustable throttle cable and throttle cable bracket. Installation was easy. I ended up using my original GM cable sheath since it has a unique mounting to the firewall. The Lokar system fixed my problem and my big block now feels like a big block again. There might be cheaper ways to fix this problem I am now happy. Thanks for your suggestions.
