Default Quadajet rebuild question

I have a 1975 Vette with 104,000 miles. Time to rebuild the Quadrajet. My question is what do I need for a rebuild kit ? I am not sure if this is quadrajet that came with the car. The only number I found today was on top of the carb and the number is 32747. Any suggestions on where to get the rebuild kit would also help. Thanks.

The numbers on a Q-jet are usually on the pax side if I recall. Just about any parts store can get you a kit. Get a new float too. And get a book about Q-jets. They usually have some good tips.

If it is original, it will have 7045xxx stamped on the side of the carb. Here is a sleezebay link with a pic of the stamping.

There are a lot of sources out there on rebuilding a qjet. I used Roe's book and some good advice form some very knowledgeable forum members.

The part number should be on the main body. Drivers side in a verticle position by the secondary throttle bore. There are four listings for 75

You can get a rebuild kit from almost any parts store. The box of gaskets usually have a pretty good blown up diagram of the entire carb. It looks complicated, but is pretty easy once it is apart.

Default Quadrajet rebuild question

Found the numbers, it is a 1975 carb. One more question, there seems to be (2) types of fuel filters. One looks like a normal filter the other looks like it has a plunger for lack of a better term. It is an automatic with factory air. Any thoughts ?

I bought my rebuild kit from Autozone.

It was ok.

I ended up going with these guys http://www.carburetion.com/quadrajet.asp
for upgrade parts.

I did notice that their airhorn gasket was of better quality than the Autozone Rebuild kit one.

That plunger is really a check valve to prevent the carb from draining back into the tank. Just use a filter that matches your carb. I'd toss that plunger in the trash, but that's just me.

I use the checkvalver filters in every carb I rebuild ("plunger" filters). The checkvalve in the filter keeps the fuel from siphoning out of the float bowl if your fuel pump checkvalve is leaking slightly. This prevents the hard start problems on many Q-Jets. I highly recommend use of the checkvalve filters - don't use the plain open filters. GM used the checkvalve filters for a reason...

Default Q-jet rebuild question

Lars - where do you get your "plunger filters"? I have a 73 L-82 with the original Q-jet and would like to use these. Thanks.

NAPA part number 23051 for the short filter (for your 73) and 23052 for the long filters (1975+).
