Default Pulling the Body off the frame.....

We were debating pulling the body off the frame on Project "Z069".

I have done many of steel-bodies Chevys before..no big deal. Is there anything I should know when pulling the body off on a 'Vette ??

I would be using my 2-post lift to raise the body. Any special lifting points ?? What about the nose...should that be supported ???

Originally, we stripped the under-carriage...cleaned and painted the under body & frame, then powder-coated all the removable parts.

We mounted to go another step and PC the chassis as well....might as well !!!!

Thanks

John

You would want to lift from the rocker panels. I would take as much weight off the nose ie. remove the radiator. Then tie off the nose to the windshield headder. You don't want to stress the nose bonding areas. Good luck you should be alright.

When I pulled the body off my 72 I used one of the many sites on the web that gives a checklist on what to disconnect and how to lift. There is a book by Nolan Adams that explains also. There is a body lift strap available that clips to the rocker panel area to lift the body, I used a strap from the nose to the windshield frame to support the nose. If your doors are off put a metal rod in the opening to support the front half to the back half while lifting. I used an engine hoist to lift the body but a post lift would probably work. If you need pictures let me know.

My dad came up with an ingenius way to lift it with a two post lift that won't go high enough to lift the body off the chassis. We used the body lift kit in the link below and used steel tubing welded together and bolted on the top of the lift. Worked out great.

Use a strap from the t-bar on top of the window frame to the nose to support it while you're lifting the body.

Thanks guys....Thats exactly what I was thinking...run a strap from the nose to the windshield frame. The car right now has no engine/tranny/radiator/headlights etc. The front end is pretty light, right now.

I will probably build a body cart really quick, to support the body. That way my lift wont be occupied.

Thanks alot....
