Default Trap Door on Distributor

I am in the process of adding parts to the MoneyPit ('69 300/350). Saturday I was installing a Ignitor II in the distributor. The previous owner broke the shaft in the orginal distributor. He replaced it with a distributor out of an early '60's vette. The tach drive port has been sealed shut with bubba juice (Silicone) and there is a port on the distributor housing that has a spring loaded access door. What is this? I am previously a EFI rustang tuner; Small block chevy is a new language to me. Is this a vacuum advance port? My distrubutor has no vacuum advance at this time. Where should the vacuum advance be hooked up?

some distributors had a little door that allows you to set the dwell.

Thanks for the quick reply. This in not for dwell, too low. This access door is in the distributor housing not the cap. It is below the contact plate (I think that is the name of the last plate (the points and now the Ignitor module ride on this plate). This door is below that.
