Because of budget restrictions I will have to use the stock cast iron intake on my 79 smallblock. I also have a 79 L82 aluminum intake. Which one is better to use? Is the aluminum intake more of a performance piece or are they the same casting except for the material? Seems like Vizard had something to say about the aluminum drawing heat from the motor and heating the carb. Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The aluminum unit will heat up faster, but both manifolds will eventually operate at the same temperature (assuming they both have the same exhaust cross over setup). At least with the aluminum one you're saving a few pounds.

Go with the aluminum unit if it's in good shape. It will flow better, look better and it's lighter.

According to GM, the aluminum intake is better.
