Default E-brake/Spindle question

A while back I purchased rebuilt trailing arm assemblies. Nice pieces but the main attaching stud for the parking brake shoes (the big pin at the 12 o'clock position) is not there. I've odered the pieces, but it appears the spindle must be removed or least pulled out to install this part(s). Hope not, but nothing is easy,..at least the trailing arms are not on the car yet.

Can someone tell whether or not the spindle has to be pulled out to install this e-brake part?

Thanks!

From when I redid my parking brakes, I don't recall seeing any other way to get to that than removing the spindle. That pin, the spring holder for the rear shoe and the backing plate all seem to need the spindle removed for disassembly. Sorry!

That is a 1/2- 20 bolt if I recall. It goes through the bushing for the shoes to fit against. There should be a lock on bolt as well. If it is missing did you call up the rebuilder? If they forgot that how good is the job? I don't see how you're going to get it in place with the spindle in and if you hammer it out you're going to wreck the bearings- if they are installed and setup correct that is.
I'd sent them back. I see a lot of this type of work, too bad.

Thanks men,..I was afraid of that. And yes, it calls into question the quality of the overall rebuild. I'll be inspecting everything.

Looks like the spindle will have to be pulled,..fun for me.
