It is not that bad to do. Yes you can do it without removing the heads. You need a tool to remove the valve springs and somethng to hold the valves while the keeper and spring is off. Compressed air in the cylinder works the best. It takes some time because you are doing all 16 valves but you should be able to do it in an afternoon. If you have done it a few times it should take a few hours.
