Hey gang, I have just got the Vette back after the steering box was rebuilt twice
The steering feels fine now (maybe even a little too loose but we'll see).
But now, it has a "pull" to the left, especially when braking. I've read on the technical board & archives that an alignment should always be done after the new steering box has been installed. Correct?
And if so, how much does a front end alignment cost in your neck of the woods?
I know there is a nut on the front of the steering valve, covered by a dust shield or cone, that when adjusted will center the wheels. Is this what you mean?
If the tie rods and shims were not touched, which they shouldn't have been, then the alignment should be the same as it was- right or wrong.
If the box is too loose then it will wander going straight down the road. With it properly setup turning the wheel going straight will turn the front wheels with no lost motion.
If the car pulls while braking I'd look for a bad caliper or collapsed hose, this may not be your issue but keep it in mind. If the car pulls while driving the control valve is not balanced - if the common things like tire pressure and alignment are correct. Since the only varible is the box, and new CV I'd guess the CV balancing.
