The past owner had rigged a black wire from the cover screw of the wiper motor to a bolt located near my hood latch mount?? I quess is to ground the motor but I ask why did he rig anything? If you remove the wire the motor will not run??? This wire is not factory. Also wiper motor smokes a litttle at connection switch. I want to fix this rigging and the smoke worries me. The motor is only working on one speed, high speed is not working.
sounds like a couple of problems:
1 the connector on the motor has a problem, most likely need to replace the contacts in it and clean the pins on the motor side.
2 the motor might be having a hard time turning because of binding, bad bearing etc, pull it off and look it over and relube
3 the factory harness ground has opened up somewhere, verify with an ohm meter and run it down and fix it.
If your 75 wiring is similar to my 76, the stock ground runs from the starter ground to the blower fan to the fan speed resistor to the wiper motor. My 76 had the same 'mod' when I got it.
You either have to find the original ground, or rewire a ground harness.
