I started a thread about replacing a rear wheel bearing, but now I have created a new problem.
I accidentally pulled the entire shaft out of the differential housing, except for the very end, and that's my question.
When the shaft came out the housing that the rubber boot connects to stayed in the differential, the bearings and the race fell out onto the garage floor.
Obviously I now need to either buy an entire new shaft, or put the bearings back in, but here's the question.
I tried tugging on that housing, but it doesn't seem to want to pull out. Does it just pull out, or is there something holding it in that I need to remove first ?
?. I assume you pulled the stub axle out from the side of the case? If so, it would be best to go ahead and remove the rear end and check things out a little. That shaft should not come out, unless the clip is off the inside, and if the clip is off there is a likely hood that the shafts are worn anyway. Why not pull the thing out and replace the seals, axles if needed, and give it a look, while you got it that far.
