I'm looking for a set of 373 gears and I found a ring and pinion gear set for $100 off a 71. My qustion is, is this a good deal and will fit with a 75?
G'day,
We Antipodeans can only dream about finding a set of gears for US$100, or even a new set for US$200. While nine inch Ford gears are available almost anywhere in Australia, specialty gearsets for Corvettes for example, are non-existent. They have to be ordered from the US with all the associated freight and import duties etc. While I haven't ordered any gears, I can imagine that the landed cost in Melbourne would be $3-400 US or about #4-600 Aust. That's a week's wages for the average worker down here.
I have setup a few gear sets and they do create a wear pattern. If you use a used set and do not get it set up just like it was it will be noisy. Even new sets will be noisy if not set up right. But with an old set you can set it perfect and if it was not set perfect the first time it will be noisy. I have used US Gear and they are good sets. I agree. I would pay for all new and go that way. Good Luck!!
I am running motive gear 4.56's in both my front and rear jeep axles with detroit trutracs in both. I have put some abuse on them in the last two years, they are quiet, never failing. I also just opened the differentials to install new RockCrusher housings and there was no metal shavings or anything abnormal that came out with the old diff oil. They were getting beat on off road with 35" x 14" Super Swamper Boggers! I think you will be safe with Motive Gears in the vettes!
