As I'm redoing my brake system I would like to take off some of my functional items and clean them up a bit. Those items are the brake booster and the Master Cylinder. What do i have to do to remove the two pieces? Do I just undo the bolts on the brake Booster and remove? or Do I have to disconnect linkage and make adjustments when I reinstall? What can I chemicals can I use to clean these two parts? I am going to sand, clean, prime and paint them when I do this, so I wont have some rusted looking parts in my car attached to some shiny new brake lines.
Removing the master cylinder is a piece of cake. I am replacing mine so I had to disconnect the brake lines. You probably should too if you're going to clean it up well without kinking the brake lines.
You can save a LOT of time by cleaning and painting the booster in place. You probably won't be able to get the bootom of the booster painted but you can't see the bottom anyway. Paint the MC with caliper paint or else the paint will come right off as soon as some brake fluid gets on it.

Thanks guys, I had to search for this post seeing that I couldnt find it, but remember making it. I will take the MC off, clean, paint, and reinstall. I will just do a light sanding to scuff up the booster then paint black, and in place. What paints are recommended? I hear a lot of stuff about "POR-15"? What is that stuff? I'm really knew to the paint world and honestly have no clue what to use.
I agree with leave the booster on, I just recently painted mine on the car and it was not that hard, but there were a lot of things to mask off. I too was convinced I wanted to take it off for painting, but once I attempted to acutally do it, I decided against it.
You might consider to buy a new booster and detailing it.You will be money and time ahead. Ask me how i know?

Marc.
Booster is a PITA for sure. There are 4 nuts 9/16" requires deep socket on a swivel and an 18" expention to get them off. Two on each side of the brake pedal assembly. Then there is the Clevis pin in the brake pedal, there is a Jesus clip on the end of the pin that really is hard to get off. Then with the MC already off it just pulls off. Reassembly is reverse, make sure the clip goes on correctly, if not the pin can fall out and Zero brakes, ask how I know.

You've just reassured my plans for removal of MC ONLY. The booster will get painted where it is. I have some extra room beside the body to get my hand under to paint. SHould atleast APPEAR fully painted, lol.
i would tape off the fittings and hand sand the crap out of it and just paint it. i have done this a few times and had good luck that way. i have also painted the booster in place just tape everything else off around it and paint away. the last time i pulled the booster curred me.
