I drove by a 67 427 today with it's right front wheel laying on the road, and a wrecker hooking up to the coupe. Now just what percentage of his driving time do you figure he's traveling at less than 20mph? He had just pulled away from the light when the spindle broke! I shudder to think of the alternative situations. Reminds me of the time I was pullling up to a traffic light and my lower ball joint fell loose on my 914-6. Just the day before, I was.....I don't even want to think about it! God is indeed good!

He is watching, even when things seem to not be all that great.

I know that lucky feeling. One night when I was about 20, I was two blocks away from getting on the freeway for one of my daily high speed runs in my 71. As I approached a stop sign, I heard a loud bang and the right rear of the car dropped to the ground. The outer mount of the half shaft where it bolts to the rear spindle broke. Had it happened 2 minutes later, I'm am sure it would have been much more serious.  :blueangel:
I also broke the rear spring about a year later. Again, it was at very low speeds :blueangel:

his front spindle????

I had a front spindle let go on a '74 El Camino while doing 65 MPH, and pulling my motorcycle on a trailer. The front wheel folded up in the inner fender and the car went into the center ditch.
Next day and $600 dollars later, we drove back home. New spindle, rotor, caliper, upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends and brake line.

No other damage to the car, including the fender !!

Was caused by a wheel bearing locking up.

Grease those suckers !!

I had a rim shatter right after I got off of the highway. It was a slotted Aluminum American Racing rim on a 75 Monte Carlo. I had been doing 100 mph on the highway about 5 minutes earlier.

I had a fiberglass rear spring break. Amazingly it broke with the car parked in the garage! I remember hearing a noise around 10PM, but didn't think to check the car (after all, it was safely parked in the garage. What could happen?). Next morning I went down to the car to go to work and noticed it had turned into a low rider.

I'm now running a steel spring. :)
