Default Vacuum question

I have removed my dash (1971 convert.) to replace bulbs, tach, speedo cable and so on.
On my Tachometer, there is a plastic valve that has two stems. Since I can only find the one vacuum line that goes over the stem with a larger hole, I assume the stem that runs straight out is a breather since it has, in comparison, a much smaller hole? Or not?
What is this anyway?

That is the wiper solendoid, should have the vacuum line plus attached to the wiring harness, yes the second stem is left alone. does your wiper door work?

yes. Well it worked before I took everything apart! As soon as the light bulbs get here (Germany) I will proceed to put it all back together.
Thanks for the Info!

You should have two vacuum lines and an electrical connection on that wiper solenoid/valve you found on the tach. One line comes IN from the "manual activate" switch [under the steering column]; the other goes OUT to the light switch (as I remember). The tube out the end of the valve should be left open (it is a vent) but have a piece of foam put on it to act as a filter. You need to get a vacuum system diagram for your car to make sure you have it "plumbed" correctly.

I beleive he was just referign to the one side of the solenoidm, meaning that he wasnt supposed to have 3 hoses. and since his wiper door worked its probably a fir guess that the other side was in place
