I've had this happen intermittently since I've had the car, but its on pretty constant now. The brake light is illuminated. Now to start the e-brake was disconnected by previous owner. The res. is filled and I've bled the brakes a few weeks ago.
I'm thinking the e-brake is causing the light? The light only lites for e-brake and low fluid?
The light will "light" for ebrake on and partial system brake failure (rears only or fronts only). If you don’t have excessive pedal travel, then I would bet on the ebrake switch. To confirm it, pull the wire off the differential valve (mounted on the frame below the M/C). If the light stays on, it’s the ebrake.
Thanks Duke, I was leaning towards e-brake as the regular brakes have fine pressure and level is full. I will do as you suggested to troubleshoot and make sure.
The only thing is since the e-brake is disconnected why is the problem intermittent? while I was under the car last week the e-brake's cable is actually broken, but stowed out of the way. Do you know how to get the light off for my probable situation?
The cable may be off, but I'll bet the switch is still hooked up and as the car shakes, the switch makes contact. Or if the wire was removed and it touches ground turning on the light. Here's what the switch looks like mounted on the PB lever in the center console.
