has anyone used a trans go reprogramming kit. and also how do you take the governor apart I know how to get it out but i need to take it apart because when you press the fly weights in the piston in the middle does not do anything and i was told that it is supposed to move.
Been a few years, but a Trans Go kit is THE way to GO for any tranny....forget the rest....
the .gov situation is that the weights/springs AS I RECALL do not pull the piston but ALLOW it to move....there is slight pressure on the end of it, and then it opens the valves in other passages, allowing shifting, pressures then change again and so forth....
lighter weights and later shifts......I have heard all sorts of stories about springs in there......I think lighter springs make for more space between shifts....gray area to me....
best bet is to take off all the excessive weight from the flyweights...and have done with it.....
it's the way I did it, and the things ran fine.....on a 400 turbo you have a vacuum modulator valve with a suck line to the carb/manifold....that modulator is available with a screw adjustment to make it shift much later....
There are 2 "nails" that hold the governor together. Clip the end off, pull the nails, the stop plate and weights come off, turn it over and the piston will slide out. Polish it up with some ATF and 400 wet-n-dry sandpaper, and put it back together.
