You'll notice the two question marks. That means questions. That means I do not know and was asking. They appeared to be the same minus some differences that didn't affect the fitment of the parts. Questions are why we are all here and calling someone stupid because they ask a question is very closed minded.
Sorry...but that doesn't fly either. I notice the COMMENT made AFTER the question, which pretty much turns those questions into sarcastic comments. I mean you ANSWERED your question with that comment.
Why not just ASK the questions WITHOUT the know-it-all comment????
Or at the very least reword the question into a less wisacre variety.

That comment was just an observation of how I was interpreting the two arms int eh picture. Neither the comment or the questions warrant how TT phrased his reply. To any person on this forum, new or old, that was inappropriate. If you disagree with my questions or comments that's one thing...but to call or ask someone directly if they are stupid because you don't like their comment or question is not cool at all and probably against the very rules of this forum that you so diligently adhere to.
Gentlemen,
This post was a simple one to show there were two different pitman arms used on C2 & C3 boxes, that's all. I think it's gone beyond the intended purpose at this point- agree.

Gary, could you answer my question about casting numbers?
The 3741383A is the PS arm. I don't know if they carried this number through the run, I'd guess yes but I really never need to check numbers when I rebuild a box. What ever arm comes in,if it ships with it, is finished and returned. These hardly ever wear out.
Just remember that a number cast on a pitman arm is exactly that -- a casting number. For something as simple as a pitman arm, (where just the shape dictates the difference between a manual arm and a power arm), it is OK to call them out by the casting number. Also, the part numbers for the two pitman arms may be different than the casting numbers when you look in the Chevrolet parts book (because technically machining the casting should create a new part number.)
With something like a power steering gear housing casting, first it has to be machined (creating a new part number.) Then there can be any number of valves, worms, pitman shafts, end covers, travel rings, etc that can be installed into that one machined casting. This can result in many, many, full gear assemblies that are different from each other yet have the same steering gear casting. So it doesn't help at all to refer to a steering gear by its casting number.
