To add to my minority opinion,..in the photo above with the blue-SB, I believe that's waaay too much RTV around the water ports on the gasket. That would promote a vacuum leak between the head and intake and she even could suck oil from the lifter valley in to the combustion chamber. I'd use about a tenth of what's shown in the photo, smeared around the perimeter of the water opening which will keep the intake flat on the gasket for a good seal.
To help drop the intake straight down so that you don't mess up the bead of silicone when installing it I use a cut off broom handle inserted in the oil pump hole than slide the intake on that thu the distibutor hole. This lines up the intake with the block and it slides down the broom handle and is now perfectly aligned and straight with the block so that it doesn't mess up the RTV bead from having to fiddle with the intake position after it's down.
I think this is a really cool idea. It's a little more vertical than using intake bolts as a guide.
