Default upper cowel removal/install

Wanting to ensure winshield frame and door posts on my 81 are completely cleaned and sealed I am contemplating removal of upper cowel panel. hinge pillar covers and rockers are now off. Before I begin what should I look for? And are the original big head pop rivets available to re-install it once I am ready? Any words of advice are greatly aprreciated.

Surprised I have gotten no response. To keep the project going I have removed/saved rivet heads and rivet bottoms from all locations. Am learning alot. Blind hole (open and enclosed) types. Saving seam sealer samples from all areas as well to replicate replacement when I am ready. Anyone done this before?

We are all trying to figure out why, if there are no obvious problems with it. Lots of work if not necessary.

Yes it is alot of work. The bird cage, once the windshield was out and doors/pillar covers off I found a couple of pin holes. I also noticed light rust under the cowel where it rests on the lower windshield corners and front rocker channel/door pillar braces. It's getting warmer so I thought while I am at it I would take it off/wheel it outside blast it, 2 coat epoxy prime it then a black top coat. That way when done it should last another 20+ years with no headaches. I also have the obvious rusting in #2 mount areas. Might have to section in both pieces there. I'll have to post a couple of pics. this weekend.
