Default battery drainage (please help)

i have a 1978 vette and am looking for advice... i have a battery draining and have located the fuse that is doing it. when the "clk,ltr-ctsy" fuse is pulled the drain stops. i dont have a lighter, my clock doesnt and has never worked and i have pulled the bulbs on the courtesy lamps inside the car and the drain is still there. is there another place to look or am i missing something??? please help...

Does your courtesy light have a delay timer?

Unplug it. See if it (drain) goes away.

i disconnected the delay timer and now when i put my test light across the neg. terminal the light is bright for a split second and then a flickering red like it doesnt have much power going across it, is this normal. when i have the fuse pulled the test light illuminates just a bit less. also do i need to replace the delay or will my lights work without it for the time being??

I am quite convinced by knwoing a lot of C3 owners that these babies will drain off about every month. I have tried to figure out why and haven't had much success. I put in a battery switch and if I am not driving regularly, I just disconnect the battery.

I had a similar problem for years on my 81, destroyed more than a few alternators recharging the battery actually. Even my auto-parts store told me "we can no longer replace these things for free even though they have a lifetime warranty".

It ended up being a stoopid dinger. The thing that made the ding or clicking sound (I actually never heard it) got stuck and just drained continuously. I removed it (large black thing on the fuse panel) and it corrected the problem.

Not sure if a 78 has one.

78's are located behind the glovebox, remove it and this is what it looks like. I bypassed mine so my courtesy lights still work. I also put in a battery kill switch because I could never eliminate the drain completely, my clocked work fine. After about a week or so my battery would be down. since the kill switch install no problems even after the winter months went by
