Locked door
This is separate post for the '79 coupe. The friggin drivers side door is stuck, closed tight! The exterior key turns left and right cleanly; the exterior door latch goes completely down and returns; the interior door latch pulls completely to open posistion; cannot pull out/unlock the chrome door lock button. This sucker will not budge. Any suggestions? Am getting ready to try to pull the door panel and see whats what but got sidetracked by the rust issue. thanks guys.

Working from the inside, make sure the locking mechanism is in locked position. Pull and release the inside door handle (releasing it so it slaps back hard) 6-10 times. Then try to unlock from inside. Sometimes it needs to be repeated. It worked for me. You will need to address the problem by pulling the door panel and cleaning/lubricating the latch mechanism. I hope it works for you as well.

i used to have that problem with my 78 on both sides. the method of releasing the inside door handle hard did not work on it. i would have to pull the door panel - yes it can be done with the door closed as long as you have some patience and a few good curses ready. then i would have to bang the lock mechanism up with a screw driver and hammer. i would always lube it up after, then a few weeks later it would be stuck again. i finally replaced both of them to the tune of 700 and some change. only to discover 6 months later that somehow water was getting in there and washing away the lube. hope that helps.
