Default Oil Leak - questions

The project 76 my son and I bought has started leaking oil. It sat for some time prior to us getting it and after about 1 month it has a pretty signifigant oil leak. I can't find the leak. It is coming from the front .

There is oil on the hood - there is a little oil pooled in the front of the intake - there is a little oil pooled in the passenger upper control arm.

It is also running down the block and dripping from the rear passenger side.

If it is the front seal will it cause it to exhibit those symptoms?

Default Chasing down leaks

Well, I don't think that the front seal would be leaking and puddle oil on the space between the intake and front of the block.

But to tell exactly where it is coming from , clean the area up with solvent, then get some spray talcum powder and apply it to the front of the engine. Go for a short drive and then examine the powder.

you should be able to tell where the oil is originating from.

sounds like same problems i had, leaking end seals for the intake
and leaking valve cover gaskets caused by warped valve covers because someone overtightened them.
valve cover bolts are INCH pounds not FOOT pounds and you would
be surprised at how many people make that mistake.

There is a bolt hole on the front of the block that can be used with a long bolt to hold the fuel pump push rod in place when the mechanical fuel pump is removed. This hole should be blocked by a shorter bolt all of the time or oil will get everywhere in large quantities.

The hole is located on the front face of the block, passenger side, at about the height of the top of the fuel pump plate.

Default I think we have a winner!

I didn't even think about that. When I removed the fuel pump(replaced with an electric) the fuel pump push rod popped right out - which I am guessing that it wasn't even there. I will check as soon as I get home.

Thanks!

You're welcome!

I just hope your garage floor didn't get as trashed as mine did - took me 6 weeks to figure this one out.
