I just received my new engine wiring harness from Lectric Limited and have a few questions. My old harness was chopped up so I don't know where some of wire connections go. I have a 72 with a 4-speed . First there are two 18 ga. wires dk. blue and yellow for the washer pump with round male terminals that don't match up to the male flat blade terminals on the wiper motor, am I missing a harness to make the connection. Second, on the drivers side of the wiper motor there is a short red wire ( 16 or 18 ga. ) with a flat male conn., what connects to this wire. Third, on the drivers side of the wiper motor there is a ground terminal, what connects to that. And last on the new engine harness by the wiper motor there is a 12 ga. red wire with a white stripe, what connects to that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bob
I am working on my '71 wipers currently. My '71 has the two round connectors for the washer motor. One yellow and one dark blue. Some model years of c-3 cars had the flat type connectors. It should not be too much of an issue to change your new harness to the flat style. The red wire that comes out of the side of the motor base goes to a single plastic connector with a red/white wire that comes from the limit switch. This connector is hot when the wiper door is in the up position.
Thank you for the help, that clears up part of my problem. I am still not sure about the ground terminal on the wiper motor. I think it might somehow be connected with the hood opening alarm switch. Thanks again, Bob
NOT so very long ago...do a search I covered these questions for another guy.....
the wiper motor frame goes to ground....engine block...the black wiere has a 3/8 loop on it, and goes under a starter bolt or bellhousing bolt...frequently mistaked and put under the BATTERY post bolt on the solenoid.....it'a about 10 ga black wire....
second off, that red/r/wh wires are allways hot, and they go through a door activated switch to the motor...so if the door is closed, switch is open and motor can't run...wipers down.... when door is up there should be 12 volts on either red or red/white wire leading to the wiper motor.....also on the thin yellow wire....there is a switch under the steering column inside...make sure it's ON...if not, wipers are dead as a dodo....
