Default 71 BB falls on its face

On wide open throttle jaunts it pulls hard then it will act like it ran out of gas, then pick back up again in few seconds. No problems with part throttle acceleration or idling. Fuel pump going out? The fuel pump looks ancient. Have had the car for 8 mos and this just started happening. Changed the fuel filter and it still does it. Its a QJet.

pull your fuel line off at the carb and put it in a measuring glass. have someone turn your car over for 5 seconds. take the amount of fuel in 5 seconds and multiply it X 12...that will give you ounces or gallons or liters per minute..whichever measurement you use. your particular motor and carb needs a certain amount of fuel to get it across the quarter mile w/o running your fuel bowl out. get those figures then post them with your carb size etc. u'll get answers i'm sure

Check the windup on your secondary airvalve and make sure it's set at 3/4 turn. If it's looser than this, the car will fall on it's face going into WOT. You might also want to verify your float level: 1967-74 Q-Jet should be .375", and 1975-1980 should be .420"

if the choke pull-off is going bad, won't this also cause this symptom?

Gage,
where did you buy your AC Delco fuel pump?
At a local parts supply, NAPA, etc. or did you have to go to a Chevy dealer.

I am thinking I have a similar problem, and want to replace the pump since it is one of the easiest solutions.
