Default Magnaflows?

I'm planning to replace my Flowmaster 40 series delta flows with something else. I like the sound of the Super 40's which is a little louder but after hearing about how restrictive Flowmasters are, I think I'm going with another brand. Does anyone know how Magnaflows sound compared to FM Super 40's? I'm looking for something that gives that raspy early muscle car sound. The Super 40's came close.

Would this fit my '82? My current setup is center-in offset-out. I think stock is offset-in offset-out.

The best muffler for C3`s are the Walker Dynomax in both sound and POWER. In fact for any Vette they are the top of the line. We have sold and installed nearly every brand there is and my personal choice is the Walker and at my cost prices, I could use any one I wanted......

632C2 did a bunch of testing on his dyno of different mufflers and the Dynomax Ultra Flo's came out the best. They are a straight through design and also sound pretty good. But sound is totally subjective.

The Magnaflow for the LS1 fbody cars is the quietest muffler available, except the 'stock replacement' of course. If you like the Flowmaster the Magnaflow is likely too quiet for you.
I like the Dynomax UltraFlow mufflers, 2.5" diameter perforated tube. You can see right thru from inlet to outlet, I don't think that's very restrictive

I would like to see the data that supports that statement. Not calling bs, but I have Flow 40's, and if there is a less restrictive muffler out there, I would like to see some real data.

I don't have any experience with the alternatives, but I can tell you that my car has Dynomax's and they sound really nice.

Are u talking about dynomax super turbos?
or Dynomax Walker a different muffler, if so where buy?

I have not seen Dynomax Walker mufflers for sale anywhere (note: I am new to corvettes, bought a 75' last month)....my vette is ***** loud with long tube headers and magnaflow 40's...I think it is going to get too much attention from the police....need a little more subtle sound, but still want muscle sound......

Walker Muffler Co. makes and distributes the Dynomax mufflers. Several studies have been made on comperable mufflers and the Dynomax by flow has been determined to be the best available and with out the ear or bone jarring tinny sounds of some of those welded grapefruit cans so popular on a Camaro or Mustang......

Are you referring to Dynomax ultra flo's?
Ultra flo's flow is straight thru.
Dynomax super turbos has many bends that couldn't outflow the other staright thru magnaflows, flowmasters?

Please advise which model dynomax muffler u are referring to.

thnx

I had the Flowmaster 40's on and switched to Dynomax Superturbos and now I am going back to what I should have put on in the first place, Magnaflow's, they sound the best in my opinion. A little quiet at idle but very loud at WOT

I have Magnaflows, power is good but sound it a little louder than stock. I personally hate them. I want something louder and I am going with Dynomax.

I also had chambered pipes that I bought off ebay. You replace the muffler with these chambered pipes with chrome tips. $180.00 for the pair. These were really loud, took the car to the strip it sounded like a nascar running. If you want loud buy them.

GM fast burn with headers

I'd like to see the data too. I was only stating what others have said about Flowmasters when comparing them to mufflers that have a straight thru design. I guess it doesn't matter that the FM Super 40's aren't a straight thru design. I'm not building a high horsepower car anyway. I have a stock '82 crossfire with no major mods. Mufflers and upgraded HEI ignition is about it for me.

Here is an interesting article about exhaust and muffler selection.

Hopefully it will not only add to the confusion.

This is a rather subjective topic either by sound or performance and everyone has a different opinion on the right muffler. I use Flo-Pro and like them as a matter of fact, so much that when I installed my new dual exhaust I welded the old mufflers back on because I liked the sound. Flowmasters to me are "flow chokers" for performance, but thats just me and everyone has an opinion and others will vary.

Someday, I'll try another brand like SpinTech or something that to me sound pretty nice.

spedaleden, by chance were those "Alan's chambered pipes"? I was leaning towards an Alans 2 chambered exhaust for my project. Not sure how they are on power/flow. Heard that older style chambered pipes were quite restrictive, and was hoping this newer Alans system would flow better, yet still have that "side pipe" sound. Any thoughts?

Flowmaster 40's are ok , but I think they sound a bit tinny
Go with Magnaflow you won't be sorry. I don't have any data but you can see straight thru them, and the sound is more mellow and there is'nt the vibration at 25/30 mph that the flowmaster have. Cruising on the highway they really sound good. Motorhead is correct at WOT they are really loud.

You got the right link to Magnaflow , those are the one that I have but mine are Stainless Steel Part# 14336.
