Default Started re-assembling my old 406

Got the block, crank and #1 rod back from the machine shop on Monday. I also got the right size main, rod bearings and main seal. Went with 3 thousands main bearing clearance as it is a race engine..
Last night, I started re-assembling the engine.
Installed crank and #1 + #2 pistons.
Planning on getting the rest of the pistons in tonight.

Will also post pics of the progress tonight ..

I'm proud of you Ollie! For so long you keep taking the GSC3 to shops to do this and that and now you're rebuilding your motor on your own.

Gonna have it ready for CI-VIII?

I hope to have the car ready by mid to late April.. Will see..

The 406 is NOT going back in as I'm having a wild 434 built..
I've been doing 90% of my work for the last 3 years.. Before that I spent way too much money on mechanics.. I do all the work except for

1) front springs (don't have a spring compressor) and A-arms..
2) rear wheel bearings
3) any major fabrication or anything that requires welding.

don't need a spring compressor, just a trolley jack and a chain, the car weight wil hold the spring. Lift the car by the lower arm, right enxt to the balljoint. Wrap the chain aroud the compressed spring and frame pocket. /undo lwoer ball joint castle nut and upper, remove spindle. Then put a jackstand under the frame and carefully lower the jack, the spring will extend and won't have a chance of flying away, the chain will hold it. Once the tension is off, just pull it out...easy peasy

Thanks!! Might be a while until I'll be able to try it as I have no intentions on changing front springs any time soon.. Love my Moroso front springs!!

Don't know about the 434.. Hopefully it'll be done in a few weeks..

As for the pics.. I was so busy working on the engine that I didn't take any pics yet..
Finished installing all pistons as also the timing chain. Now I'll need to get a timing chain cover gasket and a new oil pan gasket too before finishing the short block. I'll have to order new heads (preferably RHS 235cc heads) and then finish the engine...
I should have time to take pics tonight.. At least I hope so..

I'll finish assembling it and then put it on a engine dyno to have it dyno tuned. Once that is done, it'll go on sale with the dyno sheet.. I expect the engine to make somewhere between 580 and 600 HP w/ 11.61 : 1 compression.. which is borderline pump gas capable (with slightly retarded timing and a richer mixture). I'm looking to get around $6k for it.. That will be with brand new RHS Heads (235 cc intake runners). Those are supposed to be the best flowing 23 degree heads available...

Oliver what are the specs on the moroso springs you went with as well as any mods. Or part number would be cool. Keep up the good work.

Moroso 47150 with 2 coils cut off. (that also lowered the car by 1/2 to 3/4 inch. If you want the stock ride height, cut off 1.5 coils)

I'll definetely do that.. I didn't do it because I'm still looking for the torque specs on those bolts before locking them with the tab..

I wonder what head gaskets to go with... (thickness).. What's the standard thickness? I was thinking in getting the one for .040 compressed thickness..
