Default SBC Retro Roller Lifters

I am seriously considering installing a retro roller cam this spring. Is there a difference in quality or durability between Comp Cams, Crane or any other $450 retro roller lifter. Do I need to match manufactures or for example could I go with a crane lifter and an isky cam.

the only thing about mixing is that no vendor will warrent their parts. in fact, ask vendor what parts are required to validate warranty. it was everything when i swapped: cam, lifters, springs. you also need them to tell you what dist gear to run, etc., etc.

I have the Crane HR-284-2S-12 IG 222/230 duration @.050 112 LSA .543/.563 lift with 1.6 roller rockers. I am very happy with mine. I did match all my componets in the valve train with Crane cams except I put in Manley Street Master Valves. I would not hesitate to use Comp Cams either. I would look at those new Thumper roller cams they have they looked to be pretty nice set up and sound.

As said ... match mfg for warranty. Contact Doug Herbert for all of it http://www.dougherbert.com/ ... about the best prices & all his rollers are billet steel & great quality ( as good as it gets) for as good a price as ANY ... spring for the iron cam gear option for an extra $50 ... it'll let you run a STOCK distributor gear ... you'll come out cheaper that way too. Typical Herbert true BILLET steel roller cam WITH friendly iron cam gear for sbc is about $250 total ... lifters priced accordingly.

FYI ... alotta big name roller cams ... most of em are not steel but are cast ... for same money or less you get Herbert true steel billet.
