I just got off of work and hoped in the vette and now she won't crank.
The engine dosent turnover... it just goes CLUNK (the brake light comes on and the volts go down but she doesn't turover)
any ideas??
could it be the starter??
I really don't want to leave my car here overnight !! Not a good side of town when the sun is down.
Check and clean the bat connections first, then get a jump start if that did not work. If you are still unable to get it started then look to the starter and a tow.
Hope you get it going.
Waterplay
this happened to me.. if it's an automatic make sure it's ion park properly, take off the handbrake and try the shifter, then re-apply the handbrake and in park try to start it...

Do you have one of those quick disconnect battery terminals? If so, I had a problem with mine. The quick disconnect does not make a solid contact, so the car acts like the battery is dead.
All good advice. You'll only fix it quickly, without access to tools if it's simple anyways.
Try turning on your headlights (doesn't matter if they don't come up). You can use dull headlights as an indicator that you have a bad connection somewhere. Also, it'll indicate when you've fixed the problem be it a poor contact or kill switch. Just turn them off and start the car.
If it is a manual, push start it. Get a buddy to push it with the clutch in and then pop the clutch when you get going. BTW, the problem sounds like a bad starter or starter solenoid.
Nolio, did the guy do anything to the starter when you got it rebuild? I remember your record-long post a month ago or so, did he leave the starter as is?
Definitely get a tow though, cars like that don't last in bad areas.
The car is a automatic so the pushing thing wouldnt have worked would it?

I dont remember Johnny mentioning anything about the starter.. anything is possible though..
I am about to make a covert ride by to make sure the vette is alright!!
can a starter be rebuilt or does it have to be replaced?
It can be rebuilt. Look for a starter/alternator shop. If you are going back by your car I would definitely bring jumper cables to try and start it. You said your volt meter went all the way down when you tried to start it. Sounds like ot enough juice to crank it.
No you can't push it and pop the clutch if its an automatic (obviously you're minus a clutch). You can rebuild starters, but its not worth it, you're much better off just replacing it.
You better get someone to make sure its the starter though. You really need to get it out of that neighborhood first. Or go guard it with a shotgun
