Default C3 Mystery Part

I'm removing the carpet in my '72 to repalce it and when I removed the rear quarter panels, I discovered the foam seen in the pictures below. I can't locate this foam in my Assembly Manual. I assume it is an attempt at reducing squeaks. Was this done at the factory? What is the correct positioning for this foam?

This is a supporting piece for the plastic cover with attachment for the seat belt, if I remember correctly

I thought you jamed it down in front of the wheel well to stop noise close to where you found it. It was factory installed.

No. It's blue. I just added a picture of my Vette to my avatar.

If I remember correctly mine fell out from behind the C pillar interior molding piece that runs along the edge of the door opening near the top.

Hello,
When I was redoing my carpet in my 72 I found the same part on both sides of the rear pillars. I just figured it was some type of soundproofing or insulation and put it back into the same place.

Default Just my 2cents worth!

Hey Mike,
I looked thru my Corvette Central shop manual for this piece but didn't have much luck. If you need factory specs, dimensions, etc let me know and I'll look it up for you, ok?
I went thru the same thing when I restored mine, it's probably keeping you up at night. take it easy, Mark

I don't need factory specs and alike but thanks for the offer. I need to know exactly where to reinstall them and I got some help from CCrane72. If anyone has a picture of these installed, I would love to see it. Maybe kdf1986 has an installed picture? I would also like to know the purpose for these. Not knowing why these were installed will keep me up at night.

Thanks,

Mike

Mike unfortunately it does not have a perfect place to nest in. It fits loosely behind the part of the dog leg that has the same approximate shape as it has.
