Hi All,
I did a T5 swap from a Camaro into my 64. The ujoints are new, driveshaft shortened and rebalanced and wheels all rebalanced. I used a new clutch disk and billet flywheel. I checked the pinion and tranny angles which are fine but I am getting a nasty vibration/shaking starting at 50 mph that gets worse as speed increases. Its not rpm related as it happens in 4th or 5th gear or with the clutch pushed in. Could it be an isse of pilot bearing, tailshaft bushing or something along those lines. Any ideas of the cause would be appreciated.
The whole reason to put in the T5 was to be able to cruise at 55mph and above.
DurangoBoy,
No, I didnt use the cluch disk alignment tool. but once I pushed in on the clutch pedal I am sure it aligned itself.
Don
Yes they do self align. Once the clutch is pushed for the first time the disc is free floating and aligns itself. You only need the tool the first time so you can install the transmission.
I ran into this in a big way in the past and found it IN MY CASE TO BE A DRIVE TRAIN ALIGNMENT ISSUE.
I don't want the hassels of going into this but I aligned my drivetrain and it went away
Norval,
I measured the the distance between the output yokes when horizontal and it seemed dead on. I will have to do it all again this weekend and have an extra set of eyes to confirm.
And yeah I will have to find an extra set rims to borrow to rule out the wheels.
