My engine was built with an Eagle forged kit. Internally balanced forged crank/forged 10:1 pistons/6-inch,H-Beam rods. Don't know what the kit would cost these days it's been 5 years and 20K very hard miles. I would certainly recommend them.
Type in 383 short block on ebay and look at some with eagle internals. I can't speak for the quality, and I was wondering if it might be buyer beware. I'm considering the short block from gm performance parts at three grand and some change. I know it's a lot more money, but at least there is some guarantee with that.
Was looking at my Summit catalog earlier and this is what they have to offer:
- Eagle 383 Kit: $824.95 - Includes crank, rods, pistons, rings, main bearings. good for up to 500hp (so stated)
- Summit 383 stroker Kit: 1079.95 - includes 3.75" stroke crank, stage II rods, Keith Black Pistons, Sealed Power rings, clevite bearings, gaskets and Melling oil pump.
- Sealed Power 383 kit: 379.95 - not very descriptive. Based on the photo provided it looks like the kit includes pistons, rings, gaskets, bearings and that's about it. No crankshaft or rods.
I can't give you an opinion on any of these, other than the summit package looks to be the best deal. As for quality, I havnt used any of these brands...when i did my 383, I used a mixture of brands. Crane cam, Mahle pistons/rings etc.
