I have a non-stock 82' with a 383. My question is 1) what exactly does a pcv valve do? pump oil up to both sides of the engine? 2) Do i need it if I am not running a stock set-up? I want to get rid of it since it is ugly and I found today that it hasnt even been hooked up to the vaccum
My understanding of the PCV valve is to basically vent the crankcase fumes back throught the engine to be bured through the exhaust. Most that I have seen are connected to the air cleaner. Since yours has been disconnected for some time, you have basically been running in the pre-PCV mode. I don't remember when the PCV came into play, but earlier engines, early '60's had a simple breather blugged directly into the valve cover, which vented the crankcase fumes into the air and sometimes could be smelled inside the car when windows are down.

Nope, sounds like a plan to me. I am running just 2 breathers on my 76. The only way it could cause a problem is if your state has emissions testing/inspections.
