I've heard there are 511 casting blocks out there with two bolt mains but never saw one. Are you sure? If it is...how many freeze plugs on each side?
Interested...

Any 2 bolt 400 block is better than a 4 bolt 400. I have seen some with just 2 freeze plugs in the side and no boss (identical to a 350 externally) and have one lying around the shop but I don't remeber the casting number off the top of my head, 509 I think but I would have to look at it. I have also seen some that has 2 freeze plugs and an un-bored boss on the side (like a bowtie block). Anyway IMO if you have a 2 bolt 400 SBC and its got strait cyls and not cracked you have a good bolck.

As for the heads 882's are just regular old smog heads, nothing special really. 882's are better than most as far as flow numbers stock espc at lower lifts. They do have a reputation for cracking in the exhaust seat area thou.

Hows your port work look? I am always leery of ported heads since there are so many clowns out there with a $20.00 Dremel, making the "trumpet" port or worse grinding the floor out of the exhaust ports and the choke out of the intakes all the while still using the stock joke of a valve job. If they have a nice 3 angle valve job and the ports short side radius's are still intact, a set of 882's will make some decent power to about 5500RPM with the right cam and induction. You can check out stock flow numbers here
