also is the treaded hole with nothing it where i need to attach the ground wire? Or do I even need a round wire because My last 2 did not have them
That extra hole is for a support bracket. I did use it for grounding, but you can leave it blank.
The brown/white signal wire is a 12V source but it's not a full voltage feed. I suppose any switched 12V will work, but watch for changes. I don't know what would happen if that signal wire was overloading that circuit in the alt.
Sounds like you have it set up right though, and sounds like it's working for you. Can you post some pics of the new alt on your engine?
yeah watch out for the summit one wire alt. Thats what I had and it did not even last 6 months. Pics will be up soon as me digital camera charges. I used the keyed 12 volt power on my accel hei supercoil where it says bat on the dist. we will see how that works. Got the alt and pigtail at Advance auto parts for 90.63 total out the door.
What would happen if i did not run a resistor. My original 63 amp alt. worked with out the gen light being in the car. Then I upgraded to the Summit one that went out last night. So becareful about the summit brand alts. It did not even last six months and they only give a 90 day warranty. I just installed one i bought for a 90 vette per durango boys papaer. I have it wired like he says with the brown wire into a switched 12 volt source when the key is on. So will anything happen or just I just wait and get a resistor. I have ran the car and the volt meter was 14 volts and then when I turned on the electric fans and my head/driving lights it went to 13 so it looked fine. The case was very warm though. Thanks
It is my understanding appling 12 volts to the L terminal will instantly damage the voltage regulator

Well, that brown / white signal wire is switched 12V, but I think it has to do with the amperage.
Silver00V6Camaro - If I were you...I would contact the maker fo your wiring system and find out if the wire you are using, if theirs, will work for the alt. If you're using a standard switched 12V wire then you may be doing damage.
I ran it last night and it stayed at 13.8 volts witht he lights and electric fans, and radio so it seems to be workin great the way I have it. I will see what happens. It has a lifetime warranty on it form Advance auto parts.
