The transmission will mount on the stand just fine, I'm sure, since the bolt pattern is the same as the block. However, all the transmission internals have to come out the front of the transmission, which is the end that will be bolted to the stand. Might be a bit awkward.
74.Roadster, Some engine stands have 3 wheels and some have 4. I recomend the ones with 4 since its more stable. If yur only gonna use it once or twice in yur life then the cheapo ones do just fine. I got mine at Price Club for like $50. I used it twice and then swaped it for other stuff I needed.
If I could but in, I'm going to be purchasing an engine stand soon, give me your opinions as to what brands and/or features I should look for.
They're pretty much all the same Made in China junk. But they all do the job just fine. Don't pay more than $90 though. I paid like $160 for a hoist and a stand combo.
built mine myself. I would love to post some pics, but don't have a digital camera. Look around on the net, there must be some prints out there somewhere.
I just brought home my old 327 this week for storage until I can sell it (1962/1963 Chev. block with a bad ring). Since I will never need another again, I just quickly built one. I added casters to 2 used 4X4's and a couple of old 2X4's for cross-pieces. Works great.
