Default Anyone using polyurethane trans. mount

I just received my Energy Suspension polyurethane trans.mount and it is about 1/2 inch taller than the factory mount. Is this going to cause a problem with driveline angle or vibration. Anyone else using this mount, Thanks, Bob

I don't remember what brand mine is but I think I remember a similar issue. Haven't had any problems with the poly mount. It is certainly better than the 2 or 3 rubber ones I went through before installing this one.

This is a known issue with the ES trans mount and ES has never corrected it - it has been discussed here in the past more than once. Most people use a stock trans mount with the ES Motor mounts (as I will probably to do). I only remember of one person who said they actually used the ES Poly trans mount (anyway!).

Yeah i remember a couple of those threads. It was believed that the poly's will throw the driveshaft angle off causing a vibration. Don't know how true it is but thats what I seem to remember.

This is true. Both u-joints must be at equal and opposite angles. This will cancel out any vibrations. If the front joint is off …it will vibrate.

Is that 1/2 inch taller than a new factory mount or a used one? Rubber compresses quite a bit over time.

I believe it is new ones. I have a new one of each at home - I'll chack later this afternoon.

i have urethane tranny and engine mounts on mine - no drivetrain vibration. i'll have to look up the brand and post later. the original factory type was so mangled, i wouldn't have known of the height difference. in fact, the new engine and tranny mounts may have fixed a vibration . . .

I was using the Energy Suspension polyurethane trans.mount on my 79's TH350 before replacing it with a BTO 2004R tranny and a BTO xmember. I did not experience any vibrations with the TH350 nor have I had any with the 2004R using the same mount. When replacing the original I noted that the ES was thicker but dismissed it as being new compared to my mangled original.

Sorry for the delay!

Here's what I have:

1 - New - Energy Suspension "Kit" - Motor Mounts + Trans Mount

1 - New - GM Trans Mount

Here's what I found:

The Trans Mounts are essentially the same dimensions (metal to metal) in every way. The only difference with the ES mount is that there are 2 "dimples" on the bottom that protrude about 1/16 inch below the bottom of the metal surface - they are in the center about 3/4 inch apart where there is more poly than metal - they will surely compress when the bolts are tightened.

There ya have it - measured with digital calipers and all! I'm psyched - I can use the Poly mount now!

I have it underneath my T56, the driveshaft is really close to the seam in the tunnel underneath the e-brake. There is no way that I could have fit the mount and the supplied plate in there, too tight.

No vibrations though.

I was thinking about taking it out and shaving off 1/2" or so. The embeded metal plate is pretty thick...

My trans poly mount was taller for sure. You must have a newer version or something.

How tall is a new rubber mount? I need to measure my uninstalled ES mount when I get home next week.

I believe I bought these the same time people were claiming the difference so it's not "newer" in that respect.

Did you compare a new ES with a new GM? Also there is a different mount for the Auto vs. 4 spd for earlier C3 years. What year is your vette?

So ... what are the dimensions of each? Regardless when they were bought ... what are dimensions of each?
