Tinkling sound

I was just speaking to another engine guy and he said it might be my solid lifters that I hear? Any truth to that?
Here's an idea I used on my ol' Chevy truck to listen to the engine while driving. I used 1/4" +/- plastic hose poked through the firewall to a tee with one end going to each side of the engine. Stuck tiny funnels in the ends as an "ear trumpet." It took trial & error to find positioning where the underhood wind noise didn't overwhelm the engine sounds. The other end came into the cab and I could stick it in my ear to listen. A big stethescope. You could probably use the end from a genuine stethescope hooked onto your tubing, and secure the rod to a valve cover (or wherever) for better hearing.
Just a thought.....

My clutch had fragmented and peices were being thrown around making the same sound..... the fact that you don't have the inspection cover would make me think they would fall out.... worth a look maybe.

I had the vette out yesterday trying to find the source. One item I can rule out is any clutch-flywheel noise. When I push the clutch pedal in but keep the rpm's the same...the noise doesn't go away.
I'm going to check the valve lash maybe next weekend.
