Default 78 gauge cluster removal

I need to get out my center gauge cluster to fix a few things, and replace the bulbs with LEDs. I have the 2 screws in the top, 2 on the sides, on the bottom and the 2 underneath the console. I still can't get it out. It looks like the radio is holding it on, but I have also removed the ***** on the radio, and I did not see any nuts to remove. When I try to yank it out, I can see the radio trying to come out. It seems as though the radio is part of the actual panel.

I'm pretty sure that i'm missing something simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

There is a strap that is attadched to the side of radio so that may be the culprit. It kind of catches in the vinyl as well and you sometimes have slide a screwdriver along side to release it. It is easier if you take off the radio ***** and loosen the nuts hold the radio stems.

Look again at the radio shaft nuts. They are probably round with slots in them and at first glance might not look like nuts. A needle nose pliers can get in there to unscrew them.

Yes I did notice something similar to that, it looked like a cross between a washer and a flat head screw kinda thing. Those are the nuts that have been mentioned? If so, needle nose pliers in the indents and unscrew correct?

And if the strap you were talking about was a metal brace kinda thing holding the stereo up I trieid taking that off with little sucess.

In addition to the above, I believe you must loosen the driver's console and move rearward. The console has three screws that hold each carpeted side panel. There are also a few wiring that you'll have to unhook before removing that gauge console panel...just be patient as you remove it.

Yes I already have both carpeted panels removed, and my shift console is totally free except for wires holding it in place. I will try the radio nuts today.

Thank You

EDIT::
I got those radio **** screws off, It still seems something is holding it in, I see the vinyl on the sides flexing so now I have a feeling its that strap that was mentioned. It is getting there though.

And I assume that the wires I need to remove I only have access to once the panel is free, correct?

Thank you for all the help =)

Its out, it was either a strap or the metal frame getting stuck on the vinyl, little damage to it, but nothing you'll be able to see.

Thank you for all the great help, I greatly appreciate it.
