Default Defroster duct install

Putting all my ducting back together on 77. The defroster duct does not seem to meet up nicely with the distributor box. should I sealm the duct with speed tape or what. You figure they would make it so it would slide right on distributor box. I read somewhere that GM used silver tape to seal something up and that was the so called fix. Any ideas?

There was originally a foam seal in place that made them fit together better.

Maybe try getting some weather stripping and wrapping the male before it goes into the female. Then, seal it with tape.

You can get some rubber weather strip about 1 inch wide and about 1/8" thick. This may be too thick but it might do the trick. Try looking at Home Depot or Lowes at thier window weather strip.

Heres a pic of what I am talking about. Almost seems duct is too short.

Looks like your dash pad needs to come down to meet the support bracket. That may make up some of the difference for you.

Not where it meets the dash Eddie. Where it connects to the heater box.

Actually, seeing what you mean I retract my statement. Mine is stock and untouched in this pic and they don't meet either. Mine was wrapped in a ducting tape too. I wonder if they ever really fit together.

Well I looked at the AIM and the parts catalog and there is no seal. Here is my fix. May be a bubba fix but what else could I do.

I duct taped mine. It works. Don't care what the aim shows on this one. It fuctions, and ya can't see it. The air flow sucks so bad in these cars, anything you can do to improve it is good.

I tried foil tape. It came off after awhile. Put some duct tape over that, and it will be good.

Mine looks like that too, about a 2" gap. I got tape, no problem
