Default Casting Numbers question

I have a 75. I know that the block is not original  . Date code is B159. I believe this code is FEB. 15 1989, but I guess it could be a block from 1979. How can I tell if this engine is a true Chevy... for one & if it's a true Corvette block. I guess the later would answer both questions :D. Is there a difference between 350's like say and olds 350 and a chevy 350?

Default Re: Casting Numbers question (thewalrustoo)

On the front, pass. side of the engine there's a pad with letters and numbers on it. It's where the head bolts to the block. It would look like this "F0428HAH". With that number you can find out what type of engine and application it was made for.
