I was wanting to get some side exhast pipes, what is the difference from the side, other than the ones that go all the way to the back... is it just looks... or do the sides sound better?
Are you thinking about the stock type (stock manifolds) side exhaust from 68? Or Hooker type headers and sides?
I had hooker headers and sides on a '70 L46 and it really sounded good but loud. I don't recall the insert, but I believe it was a standard type from hooker. Too loud for me.
I have the stock manifolds on my '70 LS5 with magnaflow mufflers. I love the sound.
For looks, I love the hookers headers/sides. Just look at some of the beauties on this site. For the sound I go for the stock exhaust with good flowing/sounding mufflers.
This is surely a matter of preference. Best thing to do is to go to a corvette meet and check it out for yourself.
How loud are your magnaflow's? I need to buy mufflers but am not sure what to buy. I am looking for something a little bit quieter than a turbo muffler, and am very concerned about the noise level at cruise speeds. I was also considering Dynomax super turbos.

Well Brian if you are looking for quiet, i do not know i would PM the person up above your post about it he seemed to know what he was talking about...
The maganaflows have a nice thumping sound at idle and a nice rumble at WOT. Noise level is low at cruise, but still a low rumble...just the way I like it. While cruising I could listen to music or carry on a conversation.
