I just took out my 4spd trans on an 81, to have all the seals replaced and the guts checked out w/no problems noted. At the same time I replaced the cltuch, but after putting the trans back it will only go in reverse. What I mean is that with the stick in neutral, let out the clutch it goes in reverse. When i put it in reverse it works as adverised, but when I put it in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th the tires don't go at all, you can tell by the sound that there is a load being put on the engine but no reaction from the tires. I have checked the trans levers to be in neutral and made the appropriate adjustments to the shifter levers, but still no luck. Is it possible that it was but back to together wrong or is than another adjustment that I am overlooking.

no neutral, with the shifters in the neutral position and let out the clutch in goes in reverse. As well when the reverse lever is engaged it goes in reverse. When in 1,2,3, or 4th and let out the clutch the trans does not move at all, but you can hear the engine take on a load. Seems like it is always in reverse but it will go in the forward gears no problem. Can it be stuck in reverse and when it is put in the forward gears it is fighting itself, binding.
With the shifter levers in the neutral position on the side of the tranny and what feels like neutral for the reverse lever, it still goes in reverse. I have attempted to position the reverse lever in the two different positions, but still goes in rev.
