Default heater coil question

so i have not had my car out for a few weeks, and I went out to the garage the other day and noticed some liquid by the driver door. i thought thats wierd, wipped it up, and smelled it, because where it was I thought it was dog pee. it did not smell like anything though. I was getting ready to go for a spin yesterday and checked the fliud, my coolant level was down about an inch. hmm. filled it up, and went to the store, and as i was driving i noticed a light smoke/fog coming from the ac vent. (crap smells like anti freeze). my assumption is heater coil, would that be correct? if so, are they available for my 71? second how much of a PITA is it to replace. Should I just bypass?

It's a heater core. Yes it's a PITA to change. You can get them anywhere. But it's a different part for A/C non A/C.
You have to go in thru the right side dash. You have to remove the panel. There is a R&R in the factory service manual.

I just changed my "Hater Core" last week. I followed the Service Manual and the link below. My vette is a '76 so the link below is a little different as far as getting to the heater box.... After getting to the Heater box it is "on the money". PM me if you have any questions and I'll try to help... Not sure if there's alot of difference in 71 & 76..

CA,
Juliet was an absolute delight here in the C3 Forum about 4-5 years ago. Just full of bubbly enthusiasm about her "new" 1970. Don't know where she is now.
