I've started to work on my AC and took my center concole apart to get to the AC/Heater Assy. I also took the passengr side lower dash off to check things out and to replace the cable. My question is when I move the temp arm to open or close the heater door there is a spring loaded switch. I see there is an adjustment on the cable to make sure the door opens and closes all the way. When it gets to the spring loaded switch how far does it have to push it in? All the way or what. Anything else I should check out while I have all of this apart?
Thanks
I just did this on my 78 and it made a pretty big difference in reducing the heat to the cabin. My AC does not work (yet) but at least I have less HOT air coming in.
On mine, I adjusted it with the car running. That way the vacuum lines were all able to engage and I could tell if the door was opening or closing correctly.
Check the vacuum lines while you are in there. I had two cracked ones.

While you have it apart, check the vacuum operated actuator doors for proper operation from the console switch. This are the vents to either outside air or inside duct work directed air.
A/C MAX: door to outside air (VENT-passenger wall vent) is closed
A/C: Outside air circulates with inside cool air (passenger wall vent)
HEAT: Seems like this is the vent off the heater box duct
DEFROST: Duct just behind center console that directs air through the top vent to windshield.
VENT: Passenger wall vent open and heater vent closed. (I believe)
You can also tinker with these without engine running if you have a vacuum gauge. Otherwise get full view (which means most likely pulling passenger seat), run engine, toggle the switch and view vent operation. Don't forget light source.
