I am replacing the fuel separator on my '72 and want to make sure of something. I have about a quarter tank of gas and believe I can remove this part without getting a bath. Have hear many stories on it's function, and believe it only involves fumes, am I correct? Have also read somewhere that it does something to keep the car getting gas when you are on a steep climb? that sounds fishy though. Will I stay dry/gas free if I remove this valve to replace? Thanks.
I had my taken down a couple of years ago, and as I recall....there is a "needle and seat" inside this seperator. If you have only 1/4 tank of fuel, and the valve and hoses are kept above the fuel level...you should be OK.
Personally, I would get a $5 dollar WalMart 5 gallon fuel container and siphon out the 5 gallons just to play it safe.
I guess you already have a replacement? I heard they are hard to find. Also, I remember it being a bear to bolt it back in.
