Default motor mount dimensions

what is the correct width of the motor mounts for a 69 vette?

can some one confirm these dimensions....

my frame engine "horn" width is 2 9/16"

and the motor mount gap is 2 5/8"

are all motor mounts external dimensions basically the same?

i have two sets of motor mounts one has a width of 2 1/2" and the other width is 2 5/8". when i measure my frame engine "horn width" it measures about 2 9/16". can some one confirm these dimensions. thks bob

Hi Bob,
just measured my motor mounts and the frame 'horns'. The mount is 2 9/16" - just barely over 2 1/2". The frame 'horn' is 2 1/2". That's on my '79 but it shouldn't be different from your '69.

I just went through this with my '69. It's a small block car and I just installed a big block. I bough new mounts for a '69 vette with a big block and they would not fit the frame horns. The ears were to narrow. I had to buy mounts for a small block car which were wider.

The other thing is the big block mounts are much taller than the small block mounts, so even if they had fit the frame horns, my fan would've hit the shroud.

Apparantly, the frame horns were different for SB and BB cars.

thanks guys looks like the motor mounts are 2 9/16 and not 2 1/2 as i first thought....and the frame horns are just under 2 9/16 ....so we have a really tight fit but they do fit......i will just grease them up when it comes time for the install and they should slip into place.

has anybody ever put the motor mounts on the frame and then lower the engine to them???

i do it the other way buts its still a PITA

I'm not sure that you can get all the bolts in if you do it this way.

Lowering the engine onto the motor mounts would be great if the mount holes all lined right up. But if they dont Its been easiest for me to bolt them on the engine then let the engine weight help guide the mount into alignment

These are energy's, Polyurethane SHORT WIDE type. They are heavy duty and Fit correctly

thanks so i guess i can use either of the two sets that i have....i will have to do some thinking on this....i'm sure the ones with the 2 5/8 spacing would be the easiset to use since the would slip easily over the horn.
