i put a steeroids rack on my car a month ago. and today i put it on the lift to check everything. and on the passanger side the metal line was being hit by the big black plate and almost cut thru the line. so if you have this rack take 2 minutes to check it. i called steeroids today but they were closed. ill let you know what they say wensday night

Do you have a picture of the metal line that hits whichever plate?
i had to get two extra washers to use as shims to make the black mounting plate have the correct spacing....is this where yours was hitting....

Gad, that looks terrible...like that plate is about 1/8 inch thick, IMO that's not enough, and too boot it looks bent up top, and as if the tie rod loading in a turn? bent it...

the bracket does have a "designed" bend in almost like a skid plate. my system works fine, it turned out the suppliers hoses were just a wee bit too long in that dimension

summfin ain't right there....
That all looks like a flimsey design. If i ever do this mod i will make the brackets myself like you did. Those spherical joints have no protection against the elements and will probably wear/rust out in a year.
I wonder who is going to be the frist one to wreck their car because of a failure of something on this design?

After seeing this pic, I need to get out there and take a look at mine and see how close the line is. I don't remember it being close but that has been a while. I guess checking it over closely is never a problem, it is called PM (preventative maintenance).

I think the design is pretty good for the intended use. You can't judge a design by looking at just one corner of one piece of a complete system. There is no fore-aft force on that plate, only lateral force. The plate goes all the way across and is not flat. If the design was weak and prone to failure, I am sure the word would be out by now.
The spherical joints are plated. They are no more susceptable to rust than an plated bolt.
As far as the metal tubing contact problem is concerned, they obviously resolved the problem some time before I bought mine more than a year ago. The metal lines are nowheres near anything that could rub through.
I still say Steeroids was one of the best upgrades I made on my car, second behind a GM 350 HO Deluxe crate engine and ahead of a front mono-leaf spring.
