nothing wrong with the engine, why pull the heads ?
replace valve seals and timing chain set as well as the oil pump drive shaft - does the one with the metal sleeve fit the stock pump ?? Probably better than the plastic junk....
Throw a compression test on the thing before you do anything else. I'd bet they're all decent. Be careful-- whileimhereitis.
You've got the pan off, the manifolds off, pull the heads, and "gee, I'm here, I may as well toss a set of rings in, Oh, darn, the cylinders look worn, I better measure, OOPS, I need to bore, Well I've got the crank out, I'll check it, I need a crank...."

No arguement here. I am famous for this. The older I get, the more I lean toward "If it's not broken".............. We are changing the rear main seal while the pan is off. That's a no brainer for me.
